Fatwas of Ayatullah Khamenei on Zionist Products
English translation. The Indonesian original is the authoritative text. Read the Indonesian original
1. Is it permissible to import Israeli products and advertise them? If this is done out of necessity, is selling them permitted?
All forms of transaction that benefit the occupying Israeli regime, the enemy of Islam and of the Muslims, must be abandoned. No one is permitted to import or advertise their products, from the production and sale of which they profit. Likewise it is forbidden for any Muslim to buy such products, because of the corruption and harm they bring upon Islam and the Muslims.
2. Is it permissible to import Israeli products through traders and advertise them in a country that does not apply an economic boycott against Zionist Israel?
Anyone importing and advertising products from whose production and sale the profit benefits the contemptible government of Israel must desist.
3. Is it permissible for Muslims to buy Israeli products sold in an Islamic country?
Every Muslim must refrain from buying and making use of products from whose production and sale the profit returns to Zionist Israel, which is waging war on Islam and the Muslims.
4. Is it permissible to open a travel business to Israel in Islamic countries? And may Muslims buy tickets from such an agency?
This work is forbidden, because it endangers Islam and the Muslims. It is likewise forbidden for anyone to perform an act that breaches the Muslims’ boycott of the hostile, belligerent government of Israel.
5. Is it permissible to buy products from Jewish, American or Canadian companies, given the possibility that those companies strengthen the government of Israel?
If buying and selling those products leads to the strengthening of the contemptible, occupying government of Israel, or is used in hostility towards Islam and the Muslims, it is forbidden; if not, it is permitted.
6. If Israeli products have already entered Islamic countries, may traders buy a portion of them, sell them to the public and advertise them?
This work is forbidden, because of the corruption in it.
7. If Israeli products are sold in ordinary shops in Islamic countries, may a Muslim buy them when at the same time he is able to meet his needs from non-Israeli products imported from other countries?
Every Muslim is obliged to keep away from buying and using products from whose production and sale the profit returns to Zionist Israel, which wars against Islam and the Muslims.
8. Suppose we know a product is Israeli-made but its certificate of origin has been altered and it is re-exported through other countries such as Turkey, Cyprus and so on, so that Muslim consumers take it not to be Israeli production — because Israeli producers know that if Muslims knew the product was genuinely Israeli-made they would certainly not buy it. In such a case, what is the duty of the Muslims?
Muslims are obliged not to buy or promote those products.
9. What is the ruling on buying and selling American products? Does this ruling also cover all Western countries such as France and England? And is this ruling specific to Iran, or does it apply to other countries as well?
If buying imported products from non-Muslim countries and making use of them will strengthen the disbelieving, colonialist countries that are hostile to Islam and the Muslims, or will strengthen their financial power to attack Islamic lands or Muslims anywhere in the world, then every Muslim is obliged not to buy, wear or make use of them. There is no difference between the products of any of the disbelieving countries hostile to Islam and the Muslims. This ruling is not specific to the Muslims of Iran.
10. What is the ruling for those who work in factories and institutions whose profits return to disbelieving countries and cause those countries to grow ever more established and strong?
Earning a living through lawful work is in principle permitted, even work whose proceeds return to non-Islamic countries — except when that country is at war with Islam and the Muslims and is using the fruits of Muslim labour for that war.
