Sayyidah Fathimah az-Zahra as. once asked her father, the Messenger of Allah SAAW, “Father, what befalls one who takes the prayer lightly, whether man or woman?”

The Messenger of Allah SAAW said, “O Fathimah, whoever takes the prayer lightly, man or woman, Allah SWT will try them with fifteen things:

A. Six that befall them in this world:
1. Allah SWT lifts the blessing from their lifespan
2. Allah SWT lifts the blessing from their provision
3. Allah SWT erases the marks of the righteous from their face
4. None of their deeds will be rewarded
5. Their supplication will not rise to the heavens
6. They will have no share in the supplications of the righteous

B. Three that befall them at death:
1. They die in humiliation
2. They die hungry
3. They die thirsty — and were all the river water in the world poured out for them, it would not take their thirst away

C. Three that befall them in the grave:
1. Allah SWT will appoint His angel to terrify them in their grave
2. Their grave will press narrow upon them
3. Their grave will be dark

D. Three on the Day of Resurrection, when they come out of the grave:
1. Allah SWT will appoint His angel to drag them by the face while the rest of Allah SWT’s creation looks on
2. Allah SWT will bring them to a severe reckoning
3. Allah SWT will not look at them nor purify them, and for them is a painful punishment
